Why Customers Come to Us for Tint Removal
Old tint has a lifespan. Most standard dyed films start to fail somewhere between five and ten years — sooner if the car sits in the sun most of the day. When it goes bad, it doesn't go quietly. It bubbles up from the edges, turns a washed-out purple color, and starts to peel in strips. At that point it's not just a cosmetic issue — it's a safety issue because it cuts into your rear visibility.
We see a few situations in the shop more than any others. The most common is a customer who bought a used vehicle and inherited whoever's tint job. Sometimes that tint was installed by the dealership — usually the cheapest shop they could find — and it's already failing two years in. The second most common is a window replacement. If your glass got cracked or broken and replaced, that window loses its tint. Now you've got mismatched windows and you need the old film removed from the other glass before we can start fresh.
There's also the upgrade situation. A lot of customers who got basic dyed film years ago now want ceramic tint — the kind that actually blocks heat, not just light. Before we put new ceramic film on, the old film has to come off completely. You can't layer tint and expect it to perform or look right.
If your tint is bubbling, peeling, fading, mismatched, or just not what you want anymore, removal is the right first step. We strip the old film down to bare glass, clean off any adhesive residue, and get it ready for new film — or hand the car back to you clean if that's all you need.
What Happens When You Bring Your Car In
Most removal jobs take 45 minutes to an hour. If the film is older and the adhesive has fully hardened, it can take a little longer — but for most standard passenger vehicles, you can plan to wait in our lobby and have the car back the same morning.
When you arrive, we'll take a look at the existing film and tell you what we're working with. Some older films come off in big clean sheets. Others are more stubborn — especially film that's been on the glass for ten or more years in direct sunlight. Either way, we use the right tools for the job. We don't use dry scrapers on your rear glass in a way that risks pulling off the defroster lines. If there's adhesive left on the glass after the film comes off, we clean that too — so the glass is ready for new tint or just clear and clean.
If you're doing removal plus a new install on the same visit, plan for two to two and a half hours total. We handle both steps in one trip. You don't need to come back.
A few things that can affect how long removal takes: the age of the film, whether the car has tint layered on top of tint, whether the rear defroster lines were already damaged before you brought it in, and the size of the windows on your specific vehicle. We'll give you an honest estimate when you call or when you pull in.
Thinking About New Tint After Removal?
If you're planning to upgrade to a better film after removal, take a look at our automotive window tinting options before you come in. Most customers doing a removal-plus-retint choose ceramic window tint because of the heat rejection — it's a clear upgrade from standard dyed film and the price difference is smaller than most people expect. We also do residential window tinting and commercial window tinting if you've got other glass that needs attention.
Window Tint Removal Cost in Indianapolis
We're straightforward about pricing. Here's what removal costs at Tint Galaxy:
- Removal only — $29 per window. The old tint comes off, the glass gets cleaned, and you're done. No new film, no pressure to upgrade.
- Full vehicle removal — $209. All windows stripped and cleaned, regardless of vehicle size.
- Removal is free with a new tint install. If you're upgrading to ceramic or replacing failed film with new film, we pull the old tint at no extra charge. It's included in the installation job.
- Removal plus retint — $250 to $400 total, same day. This covers stripping the old film and installing new film in one visit. Most customers going this route choose ceramic for the heat rejection.
The price you're quoted is the price you pay. No hidden fees added at the register.
What We Can Do for You
Whether you need old film removed, fresh film installed, or just a single window fixed — we handle it all in one visit.
Tint Removal Only
We strip the old film off your windows, clean the adhesive residue, and hand the car back to you with clean glass. No new film. No pressure to upgrade. Starting at $29 per window or $209 for a full vehicle.
Removal + Same-Day Retint
Old film out, new film in — one trip, one day. We remove your failing or unwanted tint and install fresh film in the same visit. Total cost runs $250–$400 depending on the vehicle and film grade.
Partial or Single-Window Removal
If one window was replaced after a chip or crack, you don't need the whole car redone — just that panel. We remove and retint a single window for $29 removal plus the cost of new film.
Common Questions

Ready to Get Rid of That Old Tint?
Bad tint doesn't get better on its own. If your film is bubbling, peeling, fading, or just not what you want anymore, we can have it off the glass and your car looking right again — usually in the same day.
